Most successful business leaders that I have worked with are fascinated with elite sports. They know how important it is to take care of their physical wellness, and most importantly their mental strength.
Elite sports is a powerful metaphor for business and there are some striking parallels:
- winning;
- losing;
- strong competition;
- achieving goals and targets;
- hard work and teamwork;
- dealing with successes and failures;
- perseverance and determination;
- and recovering from setbacks.
Recovery is one of the most critical parts of being a successful leader. For the body, and for the mind.
The mind needs to rest to rebuild new strengths and develop resilience, similar to the muscles of an athlete between workouts.
