Blue Monday? Light It Up.

blue monday

Ah yes. Blue Monday.
That annual moment when the calendar itself is blamed for how you feel.

For the record, the “most depressing day of the year” idea has been widely questioned — including by researchers cited by the American Psychological Association — because mood doesn’t peak or crash on command. Human nervous systems, inconveniently, do not respect marketing campaigns.

What does hold up under scrutiny?
Light exposure.

Research summarized by the National Institutes of Health consistently shows that morning daylight improves alertness, emotional regulation, and cognitive performance by stabilising circadian rhythms. Not motivation. Not positive thinking. Biology.

A genuinely useful tip (tragically unsexy):
Get outside within the first hour of your day, even briefly. No phone. No optimisation ritual. Just light hitting your eyes.

It won’t make you euphoric.
But it will stop your brain from freelancing quite so aggressively.

Which, on a Monday in January, is a solid win.

With you,
Isabelle.
